Grain House, II

This is the second time, also the last time. The picture below, next to the menu is tea, not coffee. Yelp

We arrived at 11:30 for lunch to an empty restaurant. There is a woman with two children, about 6 years old, by the bar who didn’t bother to acknowledge us. A cartoon is on the tv the entire time. The kids roam around the restaurant, from time to time as they wish. I understand the working parents dilemma but this isn’t the place to keep your children, especially when you want to establish yourself as a serious business.

  • Beef tribe is good
  • Lamb wrapped in tinfoil is good
  • Dandan noddle is ok
  • Juicy soup buns/dumplings – Xiaorong Bao is terrible, from supermarket frozen section?
  • Eggplant is too sweet
  • Beef Lo Mein is ok
  • Rice, for Pete’s sake is old and hard

The dumplings cost $6.25 when Nanxiang charges $5.25 with supiror quality, no comparison.

Is it really delicious, worth waiting for hours? Ummmm … I don’t think so. But their cupcakes do taste pretty good. So to avoid waiting on line, you can order online.

The making of a shot glass

A little community store for kiddie parties as well as for adults.

They offer wide range of semi finished objects, for kids or customers to make/complete – usually paint it. We order in food from the restaurant next door. Drink, chat, laugh.

The store will call when they finish baking, about a week to 10 days.

Looking over to Brooklyn Height’s Promenade, from Pier 17 @ South Street Seaport.

Jeremy’s Ale House @ 228 Front Street at the Seaport, was a fave of my husband while attending school near by.

We passed by City Hall to dinner at Nobu Next Door.

Downtown and City Hall

It’s a gorgeous summer day in New York. Low or no humidity and temperature is in the 70s. Comfortable to walk and drink out door.

City Hall is very understated. In the shadows of so many magnificent buildings, the city hall looks unmoved and unyielding.

Nobu Next Door

Pumpkin wants some Japanese, so we go. It’s a gorgeous summer day. Low or no humidity and temperature is in the 70s. Comfortable to walk and drink out door. Yelp

It’s New York Restaurant Week. Nobu has such a good name – my husband went many times … but, either this is Next Door or I don’t know how to enjoy good food: food, in general, is very average. They ordered from RW and I ordered off the regular menu: spicy tuna roll and yellowtail roll. By far, for high end Jap, Morimoto is a better choice, for your eyes and taste buds.

The shrimp in the shrimp tempura is hard and rather tasteless; the texture of the steak is ok but also tasteless.

The desserts are good. Good point – they use handheld credit card swiper.
