WanAn Cemetery 万安公墓

The Cemetery is located at the southern foot of Xiangshan Hills in Haidian District. Facing the Nathan River 南旱河, has WanAn Mountain in the background, hence the name. It was established in 1930, being one of the earliest cemetery in Beijing. 1960 it was nationalized and is administer by government’s civil affair department 政府民政部门管理.
It has 25 acres (150 mu 亩). The layout is based on 五行 Five Elements, an ancient Chinese philosophical concept, which branches out to five areas: 金、木、水、火、土.
