Qingdao
The German architecture in Qingdao is extensive.
St. Michael’s Cathedral is at the center – used to be – of the city. The church plaza is a favoriate place for wedding photography – I saw at least four couples where fighting for a spot, at such late time – 6:15 pm.
………2018.3.28 and 1985.7.29
My first visit to Qingdao was in 1985. Many memories and stories. The street at the hill end, 中山路 Zhongshan Lu/Road was bustling with activiies and crowds but now, is dying. Walked over to Chun He Lou for dinner.
Qingdao was under German occupation since 1898.
The way they came into possession was disgraceful.
But Qingdao’s development impressed Zhou Fu so much that he lobbied to open Jinan to foreign trade.
The photo on the left is Hotel George 1906. The right photo is the German Empire Court in Jiaozhou 胶州帝国法院, built in 1912-4. This is part of German archietecture group in Qingdao 青岛德国建筑群, now the Southern District Court 青岛南区人民检察院.
Jiaozhou Governor’s Hall 青岛德国总督府旧址/胶澳总督府 @ 南区沂水路11号 built in 1905 (Friedrich Mahlke was the architect). An old photo of the building.
Luther’s Apartment 路德公寓 @ 4 Dexian Road (德县路4号), some history; and Laoshe Park.
The Qingdao subway ticket is pretty, one of the stations has a book vendor. Taking the subway at HK Middle Road and Shandong Road, to Taiping Road by the sea.
Walking along the water, the area is pleasing, unhurried. At that hour, wasn’t crowded.
Buildings painted in varied colors.
The Prince Heinrich Hotel is next to Qingdao Daily 青岛日报社.
Next, to the Qingdao Posts & Telecommunications Museum 青岛邮电博物馆 @ 5 Anhui Road (closed), known as the Gothic Tower. This old building was built in 1901 by the Germans, on the corner of (位于市南区安徽路5号,安徽路与广西路交界处) Anhui and Guangxi roads. A neat window. The south gate leads up to a bookstore Liangyou 良友.
This Ferry is one of my faves in Hong Kong, like the South Ferry in lower Manhattan in New York. But either side of Star Ferry (Central and Kowloon ) are destinations.
I haven
I take the express from the airport to Central after landing in the early morning. Here is a short video showing the Victoria Harbor, in the morning glory.
The headline news on SCMP is a robery of a jeweller shop, by smash and grab, very bold.
