Così fan tutte, 1790
The two act opera Così fan tutte by Mozart, premiered in 1790 in Vienna’s Burgtheater, is clever, comedic and of course reat music. (However, I thought the music isn’t as catchy as The Marriage of Figaro.)
Women are like that, or The School for Lovers, is the least performed of Mozart’s three operas with librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte (1749-1838) (Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni)
The cast:
- Hanna Brammer, as Fiordiligi
- Olivia Vote, as Dorabella
- Filippo Fontana, as Guglielmo
- Luke Norvell, as Ferrando
- Virginia Mims, as Despina
- Jake Stamatis, as Don Alfonso
It’s Halloween, and during the second act, some ear/heart pounding music crept into the opera house briefly and faintly. Perhaps a car with an amplifier drove by.
This is the first (?) season that Sarasota Opera offers the autumn season. Next year is their 100th anniversary – can’t wait.
Dinner at Peruvian Selva is wonderful. We joined the 2025 Halloween crowds afterward.

Will return for service and food.
We pass by this Peruvian restaurant many times and have no desire to go in because it looks dark. And it’s dark. Fake orchid in the bathroom. Our server is a middle-aged lady who’s the best, appears and disappears on the dot.
… we’ve
- Wild ceviche
- Rib spring roll
- Crab cake
- Parihuela
- Chick spring roll
All are delicious, especially the crab cake, and appetizingly presented. The Oxford Landing and Broadbent are similar in taste and yummy. The Schott Zwiesel glasses have water stains. The on-the-house cancha corn kennels, plantain, and green sauce are delicious: thank you.

The park by the 4-mile long Pass-A-Grill Beach is ideal for distance swimming, which is the reason I go. From the park to pink castle, the Don CeSar is 1.5 miles.
It has multi-booth bathrooms and an out door shower @ 16th Avenue, and tennis/pickleball courts.

Pass-A-Grille Beach is the first beach on the Gulf. Now part of St. Pete Beach (nps form 10-900), it has a long and colorful history. Originally inhabited by Native Americans, it was visited by Spanish explorers in 1528 and later named from the French Passe aux Grilleurs (“passageway of the grillers”) for early fishermen who camped there. In 1857, John Gomez promoted it as a vacation spot, followed by developers Roy S. Hanna and Selwyn Morey, and hotelier George Henri Lizotte, (2016 & 2020) who opened the first hotel in 1901. The town joined St. Pete Beach in 1957 and was designated a National Historic District in 1989. Today, it remains a beloved Gulf Coast destination.
The town of Pass-A-Grille Beach has a rich and interesting history. Inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years before marveling Spanish explorers in 1528, Pass-A-Grille Beach was hidden gem in the Gulf of Mexico; and still is today.
A rumored legend states that it was named from the French phrase Passe Aux Grilleurs (the passageway of the grillers) in honor of the fisherman who used this pristine land as a camp ground. John Gomez was one on the first entrepreneurs to utilize Pass-A-Grille Beach as a vacation area, inviting travelers from St. Petersburg and Tampa to stay at his resort-like structure, in 1857. Some of the first major businessmen in the area were Roy S. Hanna and Selwyn Morey, who began developing plots of land for the many eventual homes and lodgings for Pass-A-Grille Beach. By 1901, Frenchman and Travel Agent, George Henri Lizotte, opened the first Pass-A-Grille hotel, named Bonhomie. It wouldn’t be until 1957 when Pass-A-Grille became a part of the city of St Pete Beach. In 1989 (nearly 100 years after the town had been established) Pass-A-Grille was recognized as a National Historic District. Today, this beachfront beauty still astonishes both visitors and locals alike with its awe-inspiring views of the beach.

3.5, probably will return – this was my rating in 2022, and I forgot to post. It was a rainy day, and we came in from the back.
Today, it’s a sunny Friday evening. Everything looks bright and lovely. I was wondering why everything seems familiar, especially the bar and lockers by the front desk.
We ordered four appetizers / small plates:
~ Eggplant
~ Falafel
~ Calamari: is flat
~ Burrata
All are good, with pretty large portions. If I remember correctly, their eggplant is the most shapely, and the red sauce is kind of the first too. However, I don’t care for the dark, sweet sauce. The raw walnuts taste raw.
I like the falafel the most, especially the pinky pickled turnip (?) — please correct me if I’m wrong.
… so the old me left my cc there. They’ll send back to me on Monday – thanks K!
Susannah, 1955
Susannah, an opera by the American composer Carlisle Floyd (1926-2021), premiered in 1955 at Florida State University, about 250 miles north of here. The two acts are short and sweet. A lesser-known opera to enjoy.
It’s a re-telling of the Book of Susannah, the story follows a pretty, innocent young woman as she falls under the jealous scrutiny of her rural Appalachian community.
Book of Susanna (wiki): A fair Hebrew wife named Susanna bathes privately (having sent her attendants away) in her locked and walled garden. Two elders, having previously said goodbye to each other, bump into each other again when they spy on her bathing. The two men realize they both lust for Susanna. When she makes her way back to her house, they accost her, demanding she have sexual intercourse with them. When she refuses, they have her arrested, claiming that the reason she sent her maids away was to be alone as she was having intercourse with a young man under a tree. …
The production is ok, putting the orchestra on the stage – a first time for me. The woman sitting next to me complained that the leading lady couldn’t sign. Maybe it’s due to part of the cadence, sounds like rapping?
Dinner at Byblos was fine.

Need a white tee, so went in: I like their Pima cotton tops, and leggings.
Service-wise, it feels like Ann Taylor, quite different from my last experience nine years ago. Thanks, girls.
The spacing between the merchandise is pretty tight. Their Sarasota location seems less crowded.
… ‘need a white top’ is a false proposition -:) I’ve two stacks of white cotton tops
