Stonington, CT

The town of Stonington, settled in 1649 in CT, is very charming: stone is SEEN everywhere. Population 18,335 (2020 census). Most photos are taken at the house of Captain Nathaniel Palmer (1799-1877), which was built in 1852-54, a museum now.

There is Stonington Island in Antarctic, named after Cape. Nathaniel Palmer (1799-1877) when he saw the Antarctic Peninsula, the northernmost part of mainland Antarctica on 1820.11.17 on his sloop 单桅帆船 Hero. That area would be known as Palmer Land nowadays (wiki: Graham Land in UK, O’Higgins Land in Chile and Tierra de San Martín in Argentina). He was a seal hunter and explorer.  Stonington Island was used as the site for the East Base of US Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-41).
