I stayed there in 1982. Ruby and Lin came to visit. She had her Beida (Beijing University) ID and he was still at the stage of finding himself – 无业游民 so had no ID. The mean door guard won’t allow him to go in. How ironic. Lin weekends at Zhongnanhai 中南海 just a stone throw away from the hotel .. come and go there at will ..

We stayed at Sheraton University City, a 5 minutes to our main event: the college football. From our room, we had clear view of the stadium. hmmmmmm

The making of the moon cakes

Mid Autumnal Festival 中秋节 was approaching (9/22), 月饼 is the center piece of the celebration. Those freshly made moon cakes are delicious. I went there around 2pm, wasn’t crowded. I didn’t know its for locals or a tourist trap, or both.

撒尿牛肉丸 Pissing beef balls? I’ve never heard of this one before. 哗众取宠 try to please the public with claptrap or what? It doesn’t sound appetizing.

Polonius is a character in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. He is King Claudius’s chief counsellor, and the father of Ophelia and Laertes. Polonius connives with Claudius to spy on Hamlet. The latter eventually murders Polonius, provoking Ophelia’s fit of madness and death and the climax of the play: a duel between Laertes and Hamlet.
