A post office

Thie one was built in 1939. They’re protected with a clear plastic. A small parcel to China cost $67.25. Flag in 2015, in Oct 2015.

Bottled history

I was disappointed to see the long line at Trader Joe’s, so I went to Total Wine, instead. There are many jokes of what wine could do to your health. So, it’s appropriated.

No gloves but a wet wipe stand by the entrance. The store is not busy, not much different from a normal weekday noon.

As I was looking to pick up some 7 Deadly Zins of CA and then I spotted this Aussie’s 19 Crimes. A dozen more sins.

The nineteen crimes refers to the criminals in Britain who didn’t want to die, so they were sentenced to live in Australia as a punishment, rather than facing death, since 1788 or so.

Quite a different story nowadays, the land for the outlaws becomes one of the most desirable countries on the planet.

The grocers

96 Bond Street
Westbury, NY

Recently, on the face of the corona virus, many grocers in New York are offering pick up or delivery. I went to one this morning. The group was formed yesterday by a distributor. They provide a shopping list and you tick off the items and quantities. Picking it up at an allotted time with 15 min window. It suits me perfectly. I back in and the lady loaded my stuff, within 12 minutes.

Padding up my resume [

Then I headed off to Trader Joe’s. Unfortunately, the outdoor line was so long, it bent over to my right, which is Old Navy.

A Ford dealership

I’ve been watching a little Boardwalk Empire and in one of season 1 episodes, one of the characters held the book, International Jew, which was an antisemitic booklets or pamphlets published and distributed in the early 1920s by Henry Ford, the auto maker. And passing by it today, I thought to myself, really, in this Jewish town?

The four of us walked 2.7 miles. I then went to shop: very few customers and very few of us wore face masks. The cashiers are covered by the clear plastic curtains but don’t wear masks. When I came home, saw that the gardeners came: could never remember the white powder’s name and don’t know if they wear masks – here is NPR’s Planet Money: Food And Farmworkers.

While the magnolia is still waiting to dazzle us, the cherry blossoming has began. So I made up a story:

A tree of life:

A girl meets a boy.
They quarrel
They make up
… into a church
and marry
and have children.

ha ha ha … enjoy. The USNS Comfort sails into New York harbor. Keep up spirits and be well.

Stay STRONG New York!

We’re tough and we’re strong. New Yorkers can face anything and deal with everything.

An old house in Shanghai

3 Baoqing Road 宝庆路3号
Shanghai, China

According to the post, this is one of ten old luxury houses in Shanghai 榜上有名的豪宅约有十幢, and there are 3,000 (short for yangfang 独立花园洋房.) The following photos are taken by Hu Ping.

It’s the Shanghai Symphony Museum now 上海交响音乐博物馆. Aunt Jennie started her career at Shanghai Symphony, spending four years there (1956-60) before moving to the Central Philharmonic 中央乐团 (CNSO since 1996). The exhibits in the museum are from the Symphony and Shanghai Conservatory of Music 藏品主要来自上海交响乐团和上海音乐学院. The restoration of the property was rather decent, except the fire place.

Still under corona virus. It’s sunny day and many gardeners come out to start their season. Six of us walked.

A short walk on a rainy day

Still under corona virus threat. I walked 1.5 miles alone but was surrounded with many beautiful magnolias.

2.7 miles walk

Magnolia, my fave

It’s still under corona virus but the eight New Yorker  walked nearly three miles. Way to GO NY! Some gardeners are working the soil. The dirt they dogged up and out, give a strong fragrant, that put me at ease. The great earth.

Over the course of COVID 19, we kept three walks a week. During these outings, aside from the flowers and plantsdiscarded masks, and scooter, we saw many striking facades, intricate mason works, decorative balconies, pineapple trees, cute mailboxes, white houses, modern times, new constructions, future B&Bstoried citadels, cottages and Mediterranean homes with strong Spanish influence.
