Yuanmingyuan 圆明园


This park was burned down during the second Opium War (185660) by the

Napoleon.org‘s point of view: With the complete, terrible and seemingly pointless destruction of the Yuanming Yuan the British and French both proved their domination of China and their designation as barbarians, thus sowing the seeds of the Maoist Revolution to come.

It was the Summer Palace but after it was destroyed, 颐和园 became the Summer Palace.
