Vaccination @ Javits

Ok … it’s the covid-19 vaccine time and a day out in the city: Long Island Citysound of a cityHudson Yard, High Line, Meat Packing District & Tavola.

Making the appointment took some patience but getting it was extremely easy: from the street into the Javits Center and getting the shot, all within ten minutes. There was no line at all. Much of the ten minutes was spent at walking from one point to the next: after all, Javits is a convention center. Unbelievably quick and smooth.

We were early for the appt but they let us in,

High Line in 2021

After Hudson Yard, we walked the High Line.

It was a cold day. The very few people made it enjoyable.

This blue water bucket (?) is new, I haven’t seen it before.

Trees are beginning to bloom.

The Old Homestead is the oldest continuously steakhouse in the US, since 1868. It isn’t well known as, say Peter Luger and even Morton, but it’s known by New Yorkers. Catch Google, Starbucks Reserve,

Sound and scene of a city

We took 59th bridge or the Queensboro bridge into the city.

The drilling, the bikers are scenes of New York.

Before, the bikers are lean men on the racing bicycles, delivering documents. Now, especially after the pandemic, the bikers are very diversified, foods seem to be the main course, on the fat wheels.

Tiffany is under going a renovation. 606 W 57 Street apartments, 1-3 bedrooms rentals are leasing.

Long Island City and Silver Cup studio, right before the real big city the once rundown area has come to life, becoming a concrete jungle.

Hudson Yards, 2021

After vaccine, we walked over to the Hudson Yards.  The vessel or the honeycomb isn’t open. But a cycling class, without loud music and a screaming motivational leader, is going on in the tent next to it. Equinox is opening an outdoor post In the Wind on 10th Avenue.

We spent much time inside. Had coffee at Queensyard, the main dinning hall is closed. Some stores provide face masks.

Diller Island @ Pier 55

A little island on Pier 55.

Barry Diller Island on the Hudson River, is made up with many tulip pots. Currently, it’s still under construction.

This floating park can be seen from High Line, and I have been checking on it since I first spotted it. NYT reported it in 2018, of many headaches and struggles. Nothing happens easily in U.S.

Tavola

488 9th Avenue
New York, NY 10018

A cute Italian restaurant, locates in midtown west. It has a pizza/bar Trattoria e Vino Tavolino, a few door north, in the same block.

The most striking feature is their tiles: kind of like Chee Hsin tiles‘ #120/170 and #110.

The service: we arrived without reservation at 5:20, on a Friday. They seated us immediately. By 6:20, they started to turn people without a reservation to their bar Tavolino because the restaurant was pretty full. We got the bill, paid and left, even I would have liked to stay a little longer.

Food: didn’t blow me away but decent. Their house wine Montepulciano red is very good, would have it again.
