Bonsai pots @ Long Xuyen
Day 6, pm: Hau River, My Hoa Hung & Binh Duc in Long Xuyen.
The PM excursion is to mainland: Long Xuyen, the capital of An Giang province, in the Mekong Delta region of south-western Vietnam. Population 286,140 with $9,200 per capita.
We first ashore at My Hoa Hung / Mỹ Hòa Hưng, a rural commune of Long Xuyên city in An Giang Province. It has a general store, the guide humorously calls it the ‘supermarket‘, near the pier.
Another short sail, we arrive at Binh Duc (wiki), another commune in Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province, that is known for making Bonsai pots 盆景. A few tour mates buy a few smaller pots -:)
Bonsai runs deep in Vietnam. Symbolizing longevity, harmony with nature, and a sense of miniature landscapes. A bonsai can be inherited from one generation to another.
Afterward, before dinner, is the cocktail competition … we won. The bbq dinner used the yam we purchased in the morning.
… the kids … how do they feel when tourists come? All our mates are respectful; the content locals are warm, cheerful and welcoming.
