Suzhou Museum was originally formed in 1960, on the site of former residence of Li Xiucheng (李秀成/忠王, 182-64), one of the leaders of Taiping Rebellion (太平天国, 1850-64). This current museum is designed by native I. M. Pei (贝聿铭, 1917-2019) in 2006 and in this new location.

I first saw the wine bottles wrapped in saran in a restaurant. I kind of know why but asked it any way. The male restaurant manager said bluntly, that it’s to protect the label, “who knows what’s in the bottle…”

In the early or late 1990s and early 2000s, California was extremely relief to see China took the lousy wines off their hand. In 2003, mixing Spirit with red wine was a popular way to consume it.

• One classmate said his friend is a wine importer, who made a fortune by importing or smuggling cheap wines from US and the West, selling them at premium in China, to the uneducated consumers.
• In 2018, another classmate who lives in Shanghai said, the wine shop owner tells him that even if he has tried a wine, but he can’t guarantee the same wine in the case (a.k.a. unopened), which showed he has no confidence in his supplier(s).
• Shanghai 2018, a $10 Italian wine sold for $100 in a steakhouse.
