MSG by Penn Station is the home for ice hockey team Rangers and Knicks, the basketball, WNBA. I went to WTA final when it was called Virginia Slim women tennis tournaments. And of course, music concerts, etc. I went to see Yes there twice; women’s basketball a few times, an acrobat once.

And more snapshots of New York

Ferrara, and Mulberry St

195 Grand St
New York, New York

This Italian bakery in Little Italy, off Mulberry Street, reportedly was founded by Ferrara in 1892 by Antonio Ferrara, claims to be nation’s first espresso bar. I especially like their tiramisu.

I went in at 12:40 and it was pretty empty.

Around the corner on Mulberry Street, a newer bakery/clothing Caf

New York West

A warm day out in town, seeing different New York, from Chinatown to Hudson River Park, to Revierside Park. mainly on the west side of Manhattan.

Ten plus miles and many piers later, I didn’t feel too tired but the following day, I have to skip my swimming.

David Bernat and Xu Qi

Paul Recital Hall @ Juilliard School
New York

Two performers from Juilliard: Bernat @ Morse Recital Hall and Xu @ Paul Hall. The later is more polished. But over all, last week’s Tal First is the best among those three. Violist Bernat is unpolished and his facial problems only add to the problem: he looks at his music note side ways (squinty eyes?); his nose is constantly sniffing and he has underbite.

Pianist Xu is from Shenzhen. His fair skin is translucent. He gave a little speech before hand which I thought was great. As soon as he sat down, he reminds me of Green Gould, a slight hunched shoulders. He played 1.5 hours without rest. Just to think all the tadpoles he has to commit to his memory, makes me dizzy.

He first played Bach’s English Suite No. #, then onto Listz’s 12 Transcendental Etudes, which is way to long without a break.
